The lack of a centralized international body leaves the global tattoo community fragmented, lacking a unified platform to safeguard and celebrate its diverse heritage and artistic evolution.

Despite early attempts, a unified international platform for tattoo artists remains elusive.

Formed in 1975 by Terry Wrigley and North American tattoo artists, the International Tattoo Artists Association (ITAA) aimed for global reach but disbanded in 1978 due to limited expansion. Since then, nations have established their own tattoo associations, while platforms like World Tattoo Events facilitate global conventions. Yet, there remains a void for a cohesive international tattoo association akin to the International Association of Art.
An international tattoo association can unite diverse communities, challenge stigma, and celebrate tattooing as a legitimate art form.
